Best Time To Visit
November to April: Best for Migratory Birds
This is the optimal time for bird enthusiasts, as migratory birds from Europe and Asia arrive in Tanzania. The country’s wetlands and forests come alive with a dazzling array of species, including waders and waterfowl. This period also coincides with the breeding season for many resident birds, meaning you’ll see vibrant plumages and fascinating courtship displays.
May to October: Best for General Wildlife and Landscapes
While migratory birds are less prominent, Tanzania’s resident bird species remain abundant. The dry season provides excellent visibility for birding in savannahs and near water sources, as well as the chance to spot iconic African wildlife alongside your bird watching activities.
Specific Seasonal Highlights:
- Flamingos: Best viewed at Lake Manyara and Momella Lakes from November to April.
- Breeding Season: November to March, when birds like weavers and turacos display their brightest colors.
- Raptors: Seen year-round, but the dry season (June to October) offers clearer skies for spotting eagles, vultures, and hawks.
Recommendation:
If your focus is purely on bird watching, plan your safari between November and April for the most diverse sightings, including migratory species. If you wish to combine birding with general wildlife viewing, the June to October dry season is a fantastic choice
