Lake Manyara National Park
OVERVIEW
Lake Manyara National Park is a gem in Tanzania, nestled between the Great Rift Valley and its namesake, Lake Manyara. Though smaller than other parks, it offers diverse habitats that range from dense rainforests to open savannahs and alkaline lakes, providing an excellent backdrop for wildlife viewing. Famous for its tree-climbing lions and large elephant herds, the park is also a paradise for bird lovers, with more than 400 bird species, including flamingos, pelicans, and storks. The park’s unique ecosystem supports hippos, giraffes, zebras, and buffalo, all within easy reach.
One of Manyara’s standout features is its groundwater forest, where lush vegetation thrives thanks to underground springs. Visitors can enjoy game drives, canoeing (during the wet season), and cultural visits to nearby villages. This park offers a mix of dramatic scenery and abundant wildlife, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking a rich safari experience in Tanzania’s northern circuit. The combination of wildlife, birdwatching, and stunning landscapes makes Lake Manyara National Park a distinctive and unforgettable safari destination.
Best Time To Visit
June to October (Dry Season): Ideal for wildlife viewing, as animals congregate around water sources and the vegetation is thinner, making it easier to spot wildlife like elephants and lions.
November to May (Wet Season): Best for birdwatching, especially with migratory species like flamingos. The landscape is lush and green, and the park is less crowded.
Each season offers a unique experience, with wildlife concentration during the dry season and vibrant birdlife and scenery during the wet season.
